Crazy Cast Shadow - straight into the air

When I was on my inversion adventure I made a quick decision to pull over into a random cubby... It was so cute, the Jeep fit perfectly under this giant pine tree. Obviously meant to be! As I trekked up the snow patched hill I couldn't believe my eyes. For just seconds the power pole cast this most amazing shadow straight up into the air. I felt like 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. If only I could climb that pole to see where that shadow would take me. I quickly snapped one photograph. My settings were still dialed in from the last scene and I felt this might be a little under exposed. I also needed a vertical orientation to actually do the shadow justice. As I glanced down to shift my settings, POOF, it was gone. It was one of the most incredible shadows I've ever seen and I'm a shadow freak! Take a look.

Sun + Electricity + Inversion = Dark Photographic Goodness

Yesterday we had an inversion... The first one that I've seen this year. When the inversion comes during the winter in B-Town it usually doesn't last long. I decided to get out and shoot before possibly having to wait a whole year for the next inversion opportunity. It was an amazing transition coming from the cold, foggy side of town to the sunny, snow melting, sun popping mountains! I'm leaving you with one photograph and will post more but this one stuck out to me... I have a feeling I will never stray too far away from my power lines and power poles project!

Photograph made about 20 minutes up 'The Bogus' Road. Almost to the top of the clouds!

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals played a 4 song set at The Record Exchange in Boise. Their individual music talents are mind blowing but when you put the whole band together, in my opinion, nobody else can rock harder!!! I was so impressed with the presence and positive energy of the band that I couldn't leave The Record Exchange. I was also on cloud 9 because I scored a drum stick that Matthew Burr played with during the day time set. Grace couldn't have been more sweet. She took time to meet every single person in line, sign autographs, listen to personal stories (including mine, thanking her for calling me the day before VOTING DAY to remind me of the importance:) and she also gave huge hugs to the wee ones who's parents were cool enough to take them to see/hear her and her unbelievable band! Sorry to those who could not make the shows. I'm still in awe!

Then it was night and the Knitting Factory was on fire! I honestly wish I had the words to describe how absolutely amazing the evening was but I don't. I'll leave you with a few photographs made with my little p&s.

My favorite photograph of the evening... Blurry & Noisy = Perfect!

The whole band got up and played the drums during 'Medicine.'

Snoop Dogg is in Boise-Town

Tonight one of my dreams since 1991 will come true!
Snoop Dogg performs at the Knitting Factory, late night.
Yes, 11:30pm doors open and I'll be there.

I've been hugely influenced by Snoop and tonight he helped spark me again.
I had this sudden urge to illustrate him and this is the outcome.

Vivian Maier - Street Photographer

Vivian is my new favorite photographer. The story that is just now unfolding about her is absolutely amazing. Inspirational to the max! Please click on her name below to check out the video and see why I love her...

Shapes and lines at the Capital of Idaho.

It's time to break out of the winter hole. Today I decided to head out on a random Boise photography adventure. It's still a little chilly so I wanted to be inside with some possible outside sunny-side photo ops! The Capital of Idaho sounded perfect.

Lines, curves, stone,
concrete, circles, zig-zags,
people, light, motion,
still, beauty, power...

Allow @ Avia - Art & Music

So you may know that I took a trip down to So Cal with my pups early in December of 2010...  That sounds like it's so long ago when put that way but in all reality it was a month ago, exactly. The reason for traveling there this time was for an art show. YES, an art show, where I finally displayed a large group of my art work. I can't believe it's just now that I have felt comfortable opening my heart and showing what's inside. Of course I've shown a piece here and there but nothing like this. Showing one's art puts that person in a very vulnerable position on so many levels. I have finally decided I can't go any longer... this IS EXACTLY what I want to do!

• Thank you to all who have helped me get to this point.
• Thank you to all who were involved and who came to Allow.
• Giant thanks to Angie Kiel, who was the organizer and also participating artist. I couldn't be more thankful to her for asking me if I wanted to be involved. I'm very proud of her for pulling off this most amazing event!
• Amy, I couldn't have done it without you. You are my light! Thank you for working your tail off from landing to take off!

Jeep is unpacked... ready for set-up
Best teammate ever!

Done and done!
Meeting and toast to all involved with Allow

Time for the peeps to see the art!
Amy smiling and bringing the good vibes!
View into the art gallery and live DJ to the right.
The large screen in the background is looping a 12 minute slideshow I created for the event.
Slideshow consists of 4 photographer's works and a handful of very catching quotes and definitions of Allow.
Outside, the courtyard. Live painting and sweet live music!

CAN WE DO IT AGAIN?

Micro Machines

Wow, it's 2011 and this is my first blog post. Yay, I welcome you 2011 with open arms!

This post may seem a little random but in all reality not random at all. Already this year I have been slapped in the face with a few surprises. Good surprises, great surprises but surprises that I wish maybe didn't need to be surprises... (How many times can you put 'surprises' in a sentence?) All in all these surprises have made me step back and ask myself what is important in my life... past, present and future. When I was young I was the most free spirited person. I had a ton of different friends from all walks of life. I smiled constantly and did my best not to hurt a fly. I tried to bring the positive to every situation even if the positive seemed impossible. Unfortunately and sadly through my teenage and young adult years I lost that part which was caused by many interesting circumstances... Fortunately I have had the strength and the want to get back to my core. For the past 3.5 or so years I've been doing everything possible to do just that... get 'me' back! It's taking a lot more work than I ever imagined but it's all so very worth it. I want and need to make the best impression on this world as I can because once I'm gone... well, I'm gone! During the next few months I will be re-vamping my 'Social Network' sites and website, re-evaluating what I want to do with my business and art work. I do hope to make an impact not just on those who are physically close to me but to others who might need a nudge in a different direction.

For now I'll leave you with a couple photo's depicting my favorite childhood toys... Micro Machines! I still have the majority of my original micro machines and cherish every memory that I have during those years of play. Keep the 'me' a comin' and I hope you have your 'me' too!
